Welcome to the Introduction to Whitewater Session at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham.

Pre-requisites:

Spoken with Aidan regarding suitability to the session and you must be a MORE member of NWSC. The link can be found here: https://nwscnotts.legendonlineservices.co.uk/nwsc/account/login . This will allow you to book onto the white water course.

These sessions are for those who already paddle on flat water and want to try giving moving water a go.  You don't need a roll of to have even worn a spray deck before just be able to control a kayak on the flat and want to try out moving water. These sessions will be based on the back channels that are fed from the main course. After a quick and easy safety brief we will be playing, learning some new skills.

This course is a basic introduction to moving water on a slow section of the white water course called the ‘back channels’. You will be taught safe swimming practices and how to manoeuvre your boat in a different setting. You must be confident on flat water but no other experience is necessary.

A risk assessment for the white water course can be found in the ‘Governance’ tab under ‘Risk Assessments’.

Depending on demand this session may be split into 2 sessions. If demand only allows 1 session it will be the 11:30 session.

1st Session - 11:30 → 13:00

2nd Session 13:00 → 14:30

Once booked on through Club Pal please head over to https://nwscnotts.legendonlineservices.co.uk/nwsc/account/login and book onto the correct session. There will be a £6 club fee for coaching and then you must book and pay for a time slot on the white water course (this is approx £13).

On arrival, please check in with reception where they will provide you with a green bib.

Please be at the ‘back channels’ promptly 30 minutes before the designated start time, ready with all of your kit. Depending on ability, we may move to different sections of the course.

As a social aspect - Myself and Laura are planning to spend Friday night on the campsite which can be booked here: https://direct-book.com/properties/holmepierrepondirect?locale=en&items[0][adults]=2&items[0][children]=0&items[0][infants]=0¤cy=GBP&checkInDate=2025-03-21&checkOutDate=2025-03-22&trackPage=yes

Unfortunately, the camping fields are not open but hardstanding pitches are available for vans. Camping arches standard are available for £35 which sleep up to three so you may want to collaborate and share cost or just each get your own (they don't have beds in them!)! Camping not mandatory.

Bookings will close 3 days before the event to ensure we can send information out regarding timings of sessions.

Under 18’s must have a parent or appropriate adult at the ‘back channels’ for the duration of the session.

There are changing facilities at the centre if required.

The Organising Committee of the Introduction to Whitewater Session believe that the welfare and wellbeing of all children is paramount. All children, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion or belief, have equal rights to safety and protection. All suspicions, concerns and allegations of harm will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately. A welfare officer for the event has been appointed and will act as the point of contact for any concerns or allegations.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
