Welcome to the Beginner Whitewater Session at Tees Barrage International White Water Centre.
This course takes the basic introduction into white water to the next level.
Please note that due to high or low water levels this session may be cancelled at the last minute. As much notice will be given as possible but due to sudden adverse changes in weather or river levels safety must be prioritised. Please only book onto this event if you are aware and ok with event cancellations on or part way through the day, even after travelling.
The session costs £6 for the full day plus £17 centre fees. Centre fees will be your responsibility to book. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING THROUGH THE CENTRE UNTIL AIDAN HAS CONFIRMED THE DATE! Centre fees may be reduced as I am currently in contact with the centre.
The session begins at 10:00 please arrive at the centre for 09:15 at the latest.
Sessions are a minimum of 3 hours but you can get on and off the course as you so wish.
Numbers for this river trip session are limited due to leader capacity and will be based on suitability. Please only book onto this session if you have met the pre-requisites listed above. I have opened the numbers up on the provision that Laura Willey will also be able to lead. If I need to reduce the numbers it will be based on suitibility.
This session is a grade 2 (3) course, there will be some structured coaching on a rotation depending on numbers.
You will need:
Paddling Equipment
- Clothing appropriate for being submersed in moving water! Ideally a dry suit. A wet suit and cag is suitable but you may be submersed in cold water.
- Appropriate footwear. Wet suit shoes are not appropriate as they do not have enough grip, old trainers would be acceptable.
- Whitewater Spec Kayak (please check if you are unsure)
- Paddle
- Spray deck
- Buoyancy aid
- Helmet
Other Items
- Lunch
- Snacks
- Drinks (Hot and Cold)
- Spare, warm, dry clothing!
- Towel (Changing Robes are great!)
The club may be able to provide and transport equipment but please check prior to booking onto the session.
A risk assessment for the event will be available from the ‘Governance’ tab under ‘Risk Assessments’.
The Organising Committee of the Tees Barrage White Water Trip believe that the welfare and wellbeing of all children is paramount. All children, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion or belief, have equal rights to safety and protection. All suspicions, concerns and allegations of harm will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately. A welfare officer for the event has been appointed and will act as the point of contact for any concerns or allegations.
