These sessions are for those who already paddle on flat water and want to try giving moving water a go. You don't need a roll of to have even worn a spray deck before just be able to control a kayak on the flat and want to try out moving water. These sessions will be based on the back channels that are fed from the main course. After a quick and easy safety brief we will be playing, learning some new skills and getting to grips with some slow moving water. This is the first step in taking your paddling down the whitewater route.
This course is a basic introduction to moving water on a slow section of the white water course called the ‘back channels’. You will be taught safe swimming practices and how to manoeuvre your boat in a different setting. You must be confident on flat water but no other experience is necessary.
A risk assessment for the white water course can be found in the ‘Governance’ tab under ‘Risk Assessments’.
Depending on numbers and ability profile - there may be multiple sessions. Approximate timings are shown below. Please do not book on through the National White Water centre until Aidan has confirmed the times for each attendee.
1st Session - 10:00 → 11:30
2nd Session - 11:30 → 12:00
