Grimsby and Cleethorpes Canoe Club's First Ever Christmas ‘Deck the Hulls’ Night

Join us for a magical evening on the water at the inaugural *Grimsby and Cleethorpes Canoe Club's Christmas Deck the Hulls Night*! This festive event promises to be a sparkling celebration of the season as local paddlers decorate their canoes and kayaks with dazzling lights, tinsel, and festive decorations.

Taking place on the 12th December, the event will kick off with a brief gathering at the boatshed, where participants will gather to admire each other's brilliantly decorated vessels between 18:00 and 18:15. Craft will aim to launch from the docks, creating a stunning gathering of illuminated crafts, perfect for an evening of festive cheer.

Spectators and non-paddling family members are invited to line the shoreline to watch the event, and get into the festive spirit as the water glows with holiday lights. Whether you're a seasoned paddler or just a lover of Christmas lights, this is an event you won't want to miss.

The *Light Your Boat Night* is a fantastic way for the GCCC community to come together, celebrate the season, and support the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Canoe Club. Participants of all disciplines are welcome, and prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated boats.

Come celebrate the magic of Christmas on the water, and help us make this the first of many annual Light Your Boat Nights!

Hot soup and rolls served for paddlers coming off the water to warm up!

Don't have your own kit? Don't worry!

All equipment is included in the price and paddlers would just need:

  • Swimwear
  • Towel
  • Dry change of clothes
  • Hot Drink (advised!)

With this being a winter event it is mandatory that paddlers have appropriate protection for the expected conditions.

  • Wetsuit/Drysuit
  • Wet shoes/old trainers (are suitable).
  • Thermal rash vest and additional layers.
  • Cagoules are necessary to keep the wind off.
  • Warm, dry, clothes to change into for if accidents happen!

Note we do not have changing facilities at the docks, a beach changing robe works well. It is advised that all paddlers turn up to the docks in their paddling attire.

Safety Information

Any festive modifications to boats must not inhibit the paddlers ability to eject from their craft safely.

Please ensure outdoor battery lights ONLY are used to decorate boats.

Any paddler without appropriate winter clothing for on water will unfortunately not be able to paddle.

Helmets are mandatory for all paddlers.

Under 18’s must have a parent or appropriate adult at the launch area for the duration of the session.

All paddlers must have their equipment checked and only enter the launch area (slipway) once fully kitted out. On return, exiting the session, paddlers should keep all safety equipment on until they have left the launch area (slipway).

Please ensure as you enter or exit the launch area (slipway) that you notify the assigned club official and they will  “check you in” and ”check you out“.

Children will only be released into the care of their responsible adult.

We look forward to seeing you soon for this festive event!
